Sergiu Barbutsa – an expert of the Institute of Political Studies and Social Capital, journalist, publicist and civic activist from Chernivtsi region.
President of the “Valea Prutului” Cultural Society (since 2020); member of the “Golgota” Society (since 2019).
He is a graduate of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of Yurii Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University. In 2011, he defended his Master’s thesis in the field of political science.
In March 2012 he launched the portal of culture, history and spirituality “Valea Prutului”. He has worked as a correspondent for various publications from Chernivtsi region: print media, online, TV. He is currently an editor at the BucPress News Agency in Chernivtsi.
He is the author of the book “From the history of St. Hierarch Nicolae Church from Costiceni. 140 years of history” (2019) and the co-author of the monograph “History of the Costiceni rural community. From the ancestors to the present” (2022).
In 2020, the online station “Radio Folklor Moldovenesc (Cernăuți)” was launched on the “Valea Prutului” portal. He has initiated the project “Digitization of memories”, which aims to collect, digitize and restore old photos from the Romanian villages of the Hotyn region.
At the Institute of Political Studies and Social Capital, he has been involved in media research, historical and comparative political analysis and ethnopolitical studies projects. He has experience in implementing programs regarding the accumulation and development of social capital at the level of rural communities.
